Eliminating Debt Early With Private Student Loan Consolidation

Many recent graduates are finding it harder and harder to stretch new paychecks. Graduation may be a milestone in itself, but alongside a college diploma are the endless monthly bills. Living on one’s own has never been easy. Private student loan consolidation is often used to lower monthly payments and improve credit ratings.

Accumulating Debts

Often, the accumulation of other debts is to blame for such a sorry state of affairs after graduation. Take the case of 25-year-old Tamika Gambrel, who has a ,000 a year job but still finds it difficult to make ends meet. She has to pay 0 for the apartment, 0 for the car note and a hefty ,000 credit card debt that came from her college days. She speaks frankly about her debts:

”After four years, I walked away owing only ,000 in loans. Considering that tuition and room and board alone at Colby was ,000 a year, I think I did alright.”

Not everyone could put up such a brave face in the face of debt. Some just decide to file for bankruptcy, instead of getting a private student loan consolidation.

Fees Not Letting Up

According to the College Board:

”The cost of attending a public, four-year college or university in the 2007-08 school year–including tuition, fees, and room and board–was ,796, up 35% over the past five years; for private schools, the cost was a hefty ,367.”

These figures are by no means fixed. As we all know, tuition fees and other related fees increase and decrease depending on inflation and other economic forces. But people still want to borrow money for their college days, because indeed it’s a chance to get a better shot at life. Private student loan consolidation becomes a chance to get better rates in the end.

Know Your Debts First

To “retire” your student loans faster, you have to know your loans. Log on to www.nslds.ed.gov (National Student Loan System) to read about the specific details of different student loans. Check the status of your loans, as well as the variable interest rates and the principal. Make sure too that you obtain the required personal identification password (PIN). This can be obtained from the Department of Education. Log on to www.pin.ed.gov for more details.

Another important thing to remember is that federal loans and private loans are different. Federal loans have caps on their interest rates while private loans do not. Often, private loans are costlier. And another thing: federal loans and private loans cannot be consolidated by one large loan. They must be consolidated separately. And again, federally subsidized loans have the government backing it up (Uncle Sam pays the interest rates while you’re in school).

Make sure that you only go to attractive private student loan consolidation deals. The case of Gambrel was actually good: she had been able to get consolidation at a 2.87% interest rate. Gambrel acknowledges: “I got very lucky. At the time I graduated, jobs weren’t plentiful, but student loan consolidation programs were very, very attractive.” This just goes to show that careful financial planning can lead to beneficial results.

Canadian student loans are only available to students who live in Canada. So if you are an American hoping to get a loan from the Canadian government for an American college, sorry. If you are an immigrant to Canada, you better check about the particular Canadian student loan offered to see if you are eligible. If you are a Canadian student wanting to study in America or any other country, then you are still eligible for a loan.

All Hail

The organization in charge of Canada’s national student loans is the Human Resources And Social Development of Canada. There are also student loan and financial aid departments in each of Canada’s provinces. In other words, there are many places to check out Canada’s student loans.

There are also privately funded Canadian student loans available from banks and other lending institutions. You need to check the details about them from the particular bank you wish to get a loan from. Keep in mind that these private loans often have higher interest rates than the government loans.

Never Give Up

There are some unusual Canadian student loans that may fit the particular situation you are in. The reason these loans have low interest rates are that they conditions to get them are specialized, so there will be fewer students getting them than for other kinds of loans. These specialized Canadian student loans include loans just for part time students, for women pursuing doctorates and for disabled students.

Canada’s student loans are not just for teenagers looking to get their Bachelor’s. They are also available for those wanting to pursue a doctorate or master’s degree. Dont assume that your case is hopeless keep on searching! And getting one of Canada’s student loans may make you eligible for tax breaks.

Revisions

The average time is takes to repay one of Canada’s student loans is 15 years. Keep in mind that’s just the average and does not apply to all students. However, if you have some problems with the terms of your student loan, you do have a right for revising the terms of it. You need to contact the National Loans Student Service Centre for information.

There are three main reasons why people want a revision on the terms of their Canadian student loans. One is that they may be able to make a lump sum payment for a majority of the loan and would like lower interest rates to pay off the rest. Another is to decrease your monthly payments for a short time. The final revision is to decrease your monthly payments permenately.

You need a student loan because you just don’t have the money to pay for the tuition you need to attend the college of your choice. It’s time to search for a student loan company that offers low interest rates but that also gives you enough money to go through the schooling you need. How do you find a student loan company that offers the criteria you’re looking for? You can find one by searching the national student loan database. The national student loan database has all the information you’re looking for regarding student loans and student loan corporations. You can easily weed out the ones that don’t offer what you’re looking for so that you can wisely choose a student loan that gives you just what you need to get the education you so badly deserve.

Your College Financial Aid Office

Stop into your college’s financial aid office and ask to use their computers to search the national student loan database. The financial aid office is where you can find all the information you seek. They’ll have flyers and brochures on all kinds of student loan corporations but the national student loan database is much more thorough. Make sure, though, that you are only looking at the student loan companies that offer loans to your college. Sometimes, searching the national student loan database has student loan companies that don’t apply to your college. That’s why the financial aid office may be your best bet when searching the database.

Using The Internet

Of course, if you haven’t found a college yet and you want a student loan, search the national student loan database to find a loan offering the criteria you’re looking for. It’s not usual to choose a college based on the student loan you can qualify for but that can certain happen. Search the national student loan database from your personal computer and you’ll undoubtedly find the loan that suits you so that you can attend the college of your choice.

There are many student loan companies out there that offer the criteria you’re looking for. You can go to college even though you may not have the initial money in order to attend the classes you need. All you have to do is search the national student loan database, find a student loan company, apply for a loan and then receive that check in the mail. Then, just focus on school so that you can get the job you need in order to succeed in life.
